Lyceum at the Eagle Theater
Calling all 19th century costumers, dancers and 21st century theater techs!
Old Sacramento Living History Program is hosting a Lyceum after the style of an 1850s Gold Rush stage production. The Sacramento Ballroom Society is training 19th century ballroom dancers for a brief stage exhibition as an act for the event. The event is entirely volunteer based and benefits the efforts of historical education as part of Old Sacramento's civic weekend activities.
A series of free Victorian dance workshops along with inexpensive lessons for more intensive training to regular performers will be given prior to the event starting in June and running periodically through the summer.
If you have an 1840s-1850s costume of any character from the Gold Rush and would like to sing or dance, please contact the Sacramento Ballroom Society through its feedback page. Also needed are theater techs familiar with lighting and sound systems.
The event is held in Old Sacramento in the historic and newly renovated Eagle Theater, California's very first theater established in 1849.
