Introduction:
Castlevania Curse Of Darkness is about a young man named Hector who is a devil forger that betrayed Dracula. However you must seek out your revenge on another demon forger named Issac for killing your betroved.

Castlevania Curse Of Darkness is basically suppose to be the remake of Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, which had came out in the 1980's for the Nintendo system, it is the sequel to Castlevania II Simon's Quest. The main hero in Dracula's Curse was Trevor Belmont, but he is not the main character for Curse Of Darkness. Although he does make an appearence in the game and you get the chance to fight against him (he is also a secrete unlockable character when you complete the game).

Graphics: Castlevania Curse Of Darkness suffers miserably in the graphics department, with sloppy character and stage designs. The level designing is all the same, which means you will constantly run from room to room that looks exacally the same! With different enemies in them and somtimes the same enemies, but the uglyness of the same boring rooms will be a rather dissappointment.

Music: The music is also another worst feature in the game, and Castlevania has always had the greatest symphony/classical style of music to ever hit any video game series. But this time around the team of Konami did an awful job, you won't find anything interesting here except dull tunes with no feeling to it.

Controls: The controls are stuck and unbalanced, you will often swing off screen missing the target ,and to make things even worst the camra is weird and wrecked.

Features:
Castlevania Curse Of Darkness has an all new feature that has never been seen in any Castlevania game. You can now create your own demons to fight along side of you in battle. This feature replaces the magic attacks that the Belmont clan uses in other Castlevania games such as "The cross, swords, axes, holy water, and etc." Unfornatly I prefer the classic magic attacks allot better, but the devil forging can be fun for a short while. You can create up to 8 different types that preferm different tasks. For instance the "brute type" will fight in battle with you and they can withstand extreme damage even from bosses. Then there is the "fairy type" these little creatures will heal you, and to make things even more exciting, your creatures will level up and change forms. Hector can also level up and create weapons, armour, and special weapons. You can only create new items once you collect enough diamond shaped orbs and material. Aside from that, you can warp from area to area unlike in other Castlevania games where you have to travel far into the levels before reaching a certain area, this will make things allot easier for those who don't feel like running around for hours getting lost. Honestly all the levels are enourmous.

Difficulty: You can either play "normal" or "Crazy mode" (which can only be unlocked once you beat the game once on normal). Some classic enemies from previous Castlevania games make a come back. You fight enemies such as "bloody skeletons, astro knights, giant orcs, floating demons, and what nots." There are new enemies in the game that are not found in any other Castlevania game, they can often be a push over due to the horrific camra and pathetic fighting system. The bosses are all new, and some actually look really nice despite the junky graphics. Some of the classic bosses like Medussa and the Succubus are not present here. Dracula on the other hand as well as Death make a return to the series (since they are suppose to be the main bosses of every Castlevania game). Dracula is a dissappointment, because he doesn't reveal himself in the game until the very end!! Not only that, his voice acting is weak when you compare it to Walter Barnhard The Vampire Lord (Castlevania Lament Of Innosence). Dracula has two forms (his normal form and then a giant bat like demon form). The first form is easy, the second is somewhat tough if your not leveled up high enough to defeat him. Death on the other hand is the only boss in the game that looks original and classic, he is tougher than Dracula though.

Closing comments:
Castlevania Curse Of Darkness is not really nor does it feel anything like a Castlevania game. With all the miss and hit problems found in the game one can only say that Konami was trying to make another 3D Castlevania game that just never seem to make it to the top. But Castlevania Lament of Innosence was actually pretty good except it suffered one of the problems that Curse of Darkness suffered and that would be the repetive looking areas that look too much the same. Curse Of Darkness does at least have plenty of story telling through CGI cut scenes, which is something Lament Of Innoccence was missing. Dracula's Curse for Nintendo isn't a bad game, but Curse of Darkness is deffinatly no Castlevania game. Trevor Belont is the main hero of Dracula's Curse so its only fair that they should have made him the main character of Curse of Darkness but they didn't. So instead they give you a lousy boring ramdon new character named Hector with the worst design I've ever seen in any Castlevania game. Trevor Belmont at least has a great personality in the game, and I love his design the best. If he wasn't in the game I probably would have givin it a 1 star rating. Once you unlock him as a playable character, he also controls horribly. And his design doesnt look anything like it does in the cut scenes. - Vincent , posted 01/27/07
