Incredibly frustrating
I know this was a comedy, a spoof, a sendup! However I found the plot weak, the finale a let down and the slapstick in the middle, well... just plain frustrating. I think this thing even garnered an oscar or something, good for a few opportunistic laughs and dumb auto gags and that's about it for me. - Clinton , posted 06/07/07

endearingly raw and honest film
i enjoyed the movie and look forward to seeing it again with my sweetie. i liked, related and had compassion for every character, despite their particular flavor of neurosis, and that kind of BRILLIANCE is noteworthy in a shallow throw away world. this is real life, people, families are really like this. reminds me of "me you and everyone we know" in many ways and admire the light given to all the akward ways we try to connect with each other. just magic.

olive has "role model" status in my book and we need more female heros! - Unsubscribed , posted 01/26/07

EXCELLENT!
Made me laugh, and when I thought I was gonna cry, I laughed out loud instead.

****SPOILER AHEAD******

I liked that it was not so predictable. I was fearing they would throw in some "surprise" that Olive had a "killer" talent number that grandpa had rehearsed with her... killer as in super talented that would blow the audience away. That would have been too Hollywood ending. I was pleased when it was just Olive doing her thing. Way too funny. And refreshing. - Unsubscribed , posted 01/09/07

A bit let down
Funny and entertaining but definently not as great as it was made out to be... At least in my opinion. *shrug* Definently no biggie that I missed it on the big screen. - Jesse , posted 01/09/07

Made me laugh
If you've ever felt even slightly awkward and/or had a time when many things went wrong and you just had to get things done anyway, you might relate in a big way. - Fred , posted 11/17/06

made me laugh, made me cry, made me feel GOOD inside
If you need an injection of feel good ness, then I'd suggest checking out this movie. It is playing on the big screen of the Missouri Theatre and the big but slightly smaller screen of Rag Tag for several more just recently added shows. This is an intelligent, thoughtful, scathing, hilarious, human movie about a group of real people...or at least the real people who populate MY world, which may be sharing wayyyyy too much. :)

enjoy. - Duchess Aletheia , posted 08/29/06

Hysterical and often painful to watch
Really the best comedies have plenty of heartache and pain at the center of them, and this one is no exception. A lot of fun and a great metaphor for the struggling yellow VW bus that is US society. Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette are their usual best, and the big surprise (for me anyway) is Steve Carrell.

Support this first rate movie! - डर्शन् , posted 08/27/06

hilarious family dysfunction without being overly uncomfortable.
I was a fraid that this movie was going to be too sweet of a family movie, but it's hilarious, funny, and touching without being cheesy. I love the interactions between Uncle Frank and Dwayne, who in the midst of his teenage angst has taken a vow of silence inspired by Nietzsche. - Jenni , posted 08/27/06
